World Cities: Manila

Manila

Capital of The Philippines, Manila is a city with a rich history to discover.  With the country’s colonial roots, there is a plethora of incredible architecture to see in the city, much of which has been beautifully preserved over the years. Fort Santiago is among the oldest of these, standing for 400+ years, and built by conquistadors.

Another architectural marvel to see is the Malacañang Palace, which is the official residence of the president, and formerly home to the famous Marcos family.  Speaking of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, fashionistas simply cannot miss the Marikina Shoe Museum, which features her legendary shoe collection on display.

Cuisine in Manila is an experience for all travellers to try, especially because Filipino food has not conquered the world the same way other Asian cuisines have. Again, taking cues from the country’s Spanish influence, you’ll find foods like fried chicken and pork alongside desserts like flan.
